How to turn off the receipt printing on the SAM4s ER-285M cash register

How do I stop the receipt from printing on the SAM4s ER-285M?

1. Press the RECEIPT ON/OFF key to toggle the receipt status from ON to OFF.
2. If the RECEIPT ON/OFF key is not present on your keyboard:

• a. Turn the control lock to X
• b. To turn the receipt off, enter 9 9, press the SUBTOTAL key. Enter 1, press CASH.
• c. To turn the receipt on, enter 9 9, press the SUBTOTAL key. Enter 0, press CASH.

3. If the receipt is off, press the CASH key after the sale is complete to issue a receipt.

The SAM4s ER-285M is a great entry level cash register with a flat keyboard and thermal printer. The ER-285M has an optional credit card interface with the Datacap Twin Tran, which also supports Gift Cards.

Take up motor kits for the SAM4s ER-5200M and other registers

The Cash Register Guys have made the SAM4s take up motor kit available online. This is a common replacement part that drives the take up spool which winds the journal tape as it is printed.  The kit consist of the motor, wire harness, gear (large white gear) and the black roller (installed on the white gear) This is pretty easy to change out yourself. The cash register guys are now selling replacement printers for the SAM4s ER-650 among other models. The printers are very easy to swap out and it only takes a few minutes. For the SAM4s ER-650 the printer available which is the STM-210(A) is for the later models and will not work in the first release of the 650 that used an Epson printer. SAM4s ER-380 cash register review

The SAM4s ER-380 is an entry level cash register. Overall it is a decent cash register. Features a thermal receipt printer and an electronic journal should you need the audit tape.  I like that is has standard 12 departments/groups right on the keyboard ,which are more then enough for most folks. With four tax rates it should work in any city in North America. It also has a serial port for options like a kitchen printer, PC interface etc. (only one). I like that is has the full size 5 bill 5 coin cash drawer with removable insert.

What it lacks are no big deals if you are looking for a budget cash register but for the record, it does not have credit card interface or Inter-Register Communications also know as a LAN for cash registers.

SAM4s ER-390M cash register review

SAM4s ER-390M cash register

The SAM4s ER-390M is a nice entry level cash register. Designed for the food service industry with a flat micro motion keyboard. I really like the thermal printer because it is fast, quiet, and easy to change the paper. It does not have a journal tape but most people do without those these days. The keyboard is medium size and large enough for a small menu and items left over can be sold by code number instead of a keyboard button.

As far as programming goes it is average compared to other registers. Any register with the basic display like this model really could only be average, if you want something super easy you must move up to a machine with a multi-line display. It does come with a free programming utility, but keep in mind you will need a cable.

I like the fact that the SAM4s ER-390 has an optional credit card interface using a Datacap device which is the standard in the cash register business. Gift cards can be processed too.

Sharp ER-A347 pros and cons

Sharp ER-A347

The Sharp ER-A347 cash register is a fresh new design for Sharp. At first glance it is very sleek looking and has a beautiful operator display.

Looking further the first thing that I became a little worried over is the fact it does not have a key or a mode lock (it does for cash drawer). After digging into how it works my fears we resolved and the model button works great and you can still have a level of security.

Some things I really like about the ER-A347 that you won't find in other low cost registers

• The multi line LCD display make programming and reporting much better compared to other registers. Also make the cashier's job easier because they can see the sale and subtotal on the display as they ring items in.
• This register has an SD card port allowing for back up and saving program
• You can use the SD card to take the register data to a PC and even interface into Quick  Books
• Department shift keys are nice to allow so many departments on the keyboard
• Features traditional receipt and journal
• Optional Credit Card interface (also see notes in the CON list too)

OK here is the CON list

• Although it has a credit card interface it is not the traditional credit card interface cash registers have been using for 5+ years using the Datacap. This register interfaces with a standard style credit card terminal and still requires using both the register and the terminal.
• The PC interface is only through the use of the SD card instead of a direct connection. Keep in mind in most small machines people don't use this feature anyhow but if you do you may not like it.

The SAM4s ER-290 cash register retired

SAM4s ER-290 cash register

 

The SAM4s ER-290 is a good entry level cash register, however it has now been retired. Simple little machine that uses bond paper and a spool to spool ribbon was never a widely popular machine, however it had it's place and we sold quite a few. If you want to stay with bond paper instead of thermal you don't have many choices. Matter of fact you only have one choice and it is the SAM4s ER-5115-II which is the only machine on the market that does not use thermal paper.

The SAM4s ER-5115II is the last machine on the market I'm aware of that will validate still. I know not many people need that feature any longer but if you do this is your only choice.
