SAM4s ER-390M cash register review

SAM4s ER-390M
SAM4s ER-390M cash register

The SAM4s ER-390M is a nice entry level cash register. Designed for the food service industry with a flat micro motion keyboard. I really like the thermal printer because it is fast, quiet, and easy to change the paper. It does not have a journal tape but most people do without those these days. The keyboard is medium size and large enough for a small menu and items left over can be sold by code number instead of a keyboard button.

As far as programming goes it is average compared to other registers. Any register with the basic display like this model really could only be average, if you want something super easy you must move up to a machine with a multi-line display. It does come with a free programming utility, but keep in mind you will need a cable.

I like the fact that the SAM4s ER-390 has an optional credit card interface using a Datacap device which is the standard in the cash register business. Gift cards can be processed too.

So if you are looking for an easy to use entry level restaurant cash register check out the SAM4s ER-390M or call 1-800-863-2274 and we can tell you about this model or any of the SAM4s models.

I use 2 Er-390s and 2 Er-420s in 2 separate shops. Now I've successfully change PLU name on the Er-420 (doing STL 300 etc).

To change PLU name on the ER-390 should be the same, but I can't seem to do it. The existing description shows, but when I typed into the keyboard nothing happened.

Do you why it's like that? Thanks heaps for your help.

It is the 300 program for changing the descriptor of the PLU. Sorry but I'm going to hazard a guess operator error somewhere.

Turn the control lock to the P position

To begin the program, enter 3 0 0, press the SBTL key.

Select the PLU you wish to program in one of the following ways:

Press a PLU key on the keyboard, or

Enter the number of the PLU and press the PLU key.

Enter up to 12 three-character codes and press the X/TIME key or
Or, insert the Alpha Keyboard Overlay (see “Alpha Program Overlay” on page 74), type
up to 12 characters and press the X/TIME key.

To program additional PLUs, repeat from step 3, or press the CASH key to finalize the
program.
